In November and December 2016, my husband Jim, my son George and I took an overlanding trip through Mexico. Overlanding? What is that you ask?
Overlanding is self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations
where the journey is the principal goal.
Typically, but not exclusively, it is accomplished with
mechanized off-road capable transport
where the principal form of lodging is camping,
often lasting for extended lengths of time and
spanning international boundaries.

We left our home in Madison, WI on November 21, visited some sites along the way, spent Thanksgiving in Texas with Jim’s family and crossed the border on November 26th. Concentrating on the Gulf Coast, we drove over 5000 miles, spent 6 weeks in our 2017 Roadtrek CS Adventurous XL and went as far as Cancún, Quintana Roo.

Prior to leaving we had many people express concerns for our safety & security as well as the ability to navigate our diesel-fueled Roadtrek in a country that is not known for having the best roads or access to ultra low diesel fuel. Since arriving back home on December 28th, we have answered numerous questions, shared stories and discussed the good & bad of this trip with our friends and family.
